The Area

The City of Red Deer is centrally located between Calgary and Edmonton, acting as a transportation hub serving the Rocky Mountains to the Saskatchewan border. The city has a diversified economy of agriculture, tourism, oil and petrochemical industries complemented by a strong retail sector. The many beautiful parks and natural green spaces are unsurpassed providing leisure activities for every season. For those looking for less strenuous activities, Red Deer is culturally rich with six live theatres, three museums and a number of art galleries. Red Deer has evolved as the fastest growing municipality in Alberta noted as a city with a promising and auspicious future.

Bower Place Public Art Gallery

Acknowledging western history and the role of that Alberta icon, the cowboy, Bower Place proudly showcases a public art display of murals, sculptures and mobiles. These famous collections of whimsical bronze-like sculptures are displayed throughout the shopping centre and echo a visual narration of Red Deer’s days gone by.

The genius behind these creations is Cameron Watt, who was born in 1957 in Montreal, Quebec. He received his education from the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, attended the University of Western Ontario and the Banff School of Arts. Mr. Watt has exhibited paintings and sculptures across Canada and is represented in many private and public art collections. He has been awarded both provincial and Canada Council grants for artistic and curatorial projects. He is best known for his creation of elaborate themed displays.*
