Cue the iconic quote from The Devil Wears Prada: “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.” Now, I know Miranda Priestly is a purveyor of style and taste, but the florals blooming this season are lovely!
If you’re the type whose closet has all black everything and are looking to level-up your wardrobe with some patterns and colours, this season you can have your cake and eat it too. Mix classic black staples, such as the leather shacket below, with fun pops of colour like Sam Edelman’s sandals. Plus, keep your comfy work-from-home vibes with sweaters and distressed denim, or create a dressed-up look with floral and denim dresses.
Work-from-home, cozy vibes are here to stay, it seems. Cozy up with a sweater, and look pretty in pink too, from H&M. Pair your blouses with some high-rise denim. Lastly, 80’s trends don’t stop at scrunchies—check out the shoulder pads popping up from Topshop!
You need a great trench coat and raincoat for Spring (especially a seam-sealed, waterproof jacket like lululemon’s Rain Rebel). Blazers in light colours are great for Spring/Summer as well! Dress this light beige beauty from H&M down with denim, or up with some tailored trousers. I’ve also been obsessed with shackets lately (i.e.: child of the jacket and shirt). They’re great layering pieces, especially during transitional seasons.
After our cold streak, what better way to celebrate the warmer seasons with a fun dress?! For my boho-chic gals, you’ll love the new Free People maxi dress.
Is it just me, or do the warmer temps make you also want to whip out the light wash/distressed denim??
For my grunge-loving gals (and guys—these are unisex) who are trying to keep it professional, check out this vegan leather shoe from Dr. Martens. This one’s also available in a platform version (#TrendAlert). Mules are my favourite as they are so chic and easy to slip on. This Franco Sarto pair is also available in black for my gals who don’t want to risk their sparkly white shoes. #TrendAlert again—platform sandals will take your style to new heights.
p.s.: Sam Edelman’s sandals are also available in Cloud Blue and Peach Fizz if you’re looking for a fun pop of colour (‘tis the season, after all).
And you thought your tulle days were over after graduation day! For a pretty, feminine look, scrunchies are all the rage. Accessorize your look with some chain earrings, and, as the sun comes out to play for more and more each day, don’t forget eye protection with some new sunnies. For the environmentally conscious, the can’t-miss crossbody by Matt & Nat is made with vegan leather and recycled nylon.
Maia is a classic Central Albertan gal who KNOWS her way around Bower Place . . . she grew up exploring it! If she’s not scouting the best of The Great Indoors, she’s probably strapping on her hiking pack to escape to the mountains or grabbing her cowboy boots (she’ll never say “no” to a rodeo). She has a love of free-spirited 70s vibes including eclectic accessories, bright colours, and fun patterns.
