Break  The Bias

Date: March 8, 2022

Happy International Women’s Day!

According to their website, the day exists to celebrate “the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.” The theme for 2022 is #BreakTheBias. How do you plan to commemorate this campaign and forge women’s equality?

Some of our retailers are paying homage to women’s empowerment recently; for example, Hillberg & Berk is offering their Shattered Glass Sparkle (think: shattering a glass ceiling) and Venus Pins (pictured below) with proceeds to benefit Dress for Success Canada. Their goal is to raise $50,000 in March. More on that here.

Joydrop’s journey began with Shashi Behl, according to their website, a “passionate entrepreneur and strong advocate for women in business”. This jeweller is featuring changemakers in their community on Instagram, sharing how incredible women are making waves and their calls to action this IWD. Check out their latest posts to garner inspiration.

Here are some female-owned businesses around Bower Place that you can support:

Maia

Marketing Coordinator

Maia is a classic Central Albertan gal who KNOWS her way around Bower Place . . . she grew up exploring it! If she’s not scouting the best of The Great Indoors, she’s probably strapping on her hiking pack to escape to the mountains or grabbing her cowboy boots (she’ll never say “no” to a rodeo). She has a love of free-spirited 70s vibes including eclectic accessories, bright colours, and fun patterns.
