Chin Up Vs. Fork Up

Date: January 5, 2018

Here we are again, the dreaded season of internal conflict. On the one hand, I’m cold — and nothing warms me up like some good old-fashioned comfort food (mac & cheese at Chachi’s, here I come). On the other hand, there is that New Year’s resolution (once again involving a health and wellness-related thematic).

Chin up or fork up?

In recent years, I’ve come to a conclusion regarding this common dilemma — thanks to my kids. As they grow older, you realize how much of a role model you serve in terms of their day-to-day lives.

So, I began to think—how would I want my kids to embrace this situation? Do I want them to constantly shy away from any “un-healthy” food? Absolutely not! But do I want them to end up as couch potatoes? Hard no! Balance is the key. The way I see it, life is short — so enjoy it — in which case, next time you’re down at Bower Place and you smell the sweet delicious scent of fresh-baked cinnamon rolls coming from Cinnzeo . . . I say, indulge (just remember to do a couple of chin ups afterwards!).
